happy 1997

Love calls - everywhere and always. We’re sky bound.
Are you coming?” Rumi

hour watching

Thursday: New Year’s Eve brings the second Full Moon of the month, and it’s a lunar eclipse in Cancer to boot. Auld acquaintance won’t be forgot today. It’s more likely to waft through our thoughts, come up in conversation and even phone, e-mail or walk in the door. As nostalgia washes over you, it’s okay (and appropriate) to admit that you’re glad certain situations are in the past. Sweep out the old and immerse yourself in time present. That’s where you live: now. And that’s where each day of next year will take place: in the now.

my dick is a pussy

"I disagree with the use of the word “pussy” to describe a weak person. Because the vagina is the tougher of the two genitals. Think about it. It can pass something fifty times its size through it. You can pound on it for hours and it goes, “More! More!” It bleeds every month and it won’t die! It’s like the Predator! Meanwhile my penis… If it gets cold or there’s a fight he’s like, “I’m outta here!” What I’m trying to say is… my dick is a pussy."

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope

With one ruler (Mars) retrograding in your career sector and the other (Pluto) conjoining with Venus on Monday morning, important changes are shaping up, and it’s in your best interest to pay attention to what these are with great vigilance. Mercury retrogrades in your house of communication, so be clear that it isn’t time to speak up just yet, though you’ll feel compelled to when the Venus Pluto conjunction amplifies your feelings as the week begins. All week long the Moon is building to a Blue Moon lunar eclipse on Thursday in your house of higher Self, and it’s important to wait until all the dust settles before you share what’s on your mind and in your heart. This may not be the easiest thing you’ve ever done, but it certainly isn’t the hardest either. Besides, it’s extremely important.

Timing is everything right now.

(Yay! my horoscope lady is back.. i like this. i need to shut up more.. )

musk ox

To perfect these images, I looked for the storm and the storm found me. Violence in the wind, blinding snow, cold which freezes everything. As an eraser which puts the landscape nude and wipes the extra out. You think that there will be nothing left, then your discover far off an unmoved and standing animal. Every squall becomes then a lesson of humility in front of these beings which defy elements.
( i love this quote from the Photographer)

The musk ox Ovibos Moschatus populates the circumpolar regions of Alaska and northern Canada, Greenland and Scandinavia, to Siberia.

Aurora Boreas

Named after Aurora, the Roman goddess of the dawn, and Boreas, Greek for "northern wind," the aurora borealis is more commonly known as the "northern lights."

"Polar lights," however, is a more accurate name, as they occur in both the northern and southern hemispheres, but intensify with increasing proximity to the magnetic poles.

Cars and Money: New Works by David Lachapelle

Pablo Picasso’s Guernica

Arguably one of his finest and most influential paintings, Pablo Picasso’s Guernica is seen above in a completely different light, thoroughly examined in digital 3D through this intriguing video.
“Guernica is a painting by Pablo Picasso, depicting the bombing of Guernica, Basque Country, by German and Italian warplanes at the behest of the Spanish Nationalist forces, on April 26, 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. The Spanish Republican government commissioned Pablo Picasso to create a large mural for the Spanish display at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (1937) Paris International Exposition in the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris.

Guernica shows the tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts upon individuals, particularly innocent civilians. This work has gained a monumental status, becoming a perpetual reminder of the tragedies of war, an anti-war symbol, and an embodiment of peace. On completion Guernica was displayed around the world in a brief tour, becoming famous and widely acclaimed. This tour helped bring the Spanish Civil War to the world’s attention.”

Beneath the icy waters of Antarctica, in a place that seems so inhospitable, live amongst the rarest and most beautiful creatures on earth. Recently, a team of international researchers traveled to study marine life there, where ocean temperatures are rising more rapidly than anywhere else in the world. What they brought back are some of the most fascinating photographs of Antarctic sea life ever seen--portraits of organisms on the front-line of global climate change.

The photographs, released by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), reveal a wide variety of rare marine life--from fish and octopus to giant sea-spiders and starfish, all specially adapted for their unique ecosystem. As ocean temperatures rise, the researchers warn, the fate of these spectacular organisms is increasingly uncertain

Sudarshan Patnaik

Photo via the BBC

World renowned Indian sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik is already well known for his work with Santa Claus--last year, he entered the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the largest ever 'sand Santa'. This year, he's using his talent and bolstered profile to highlight the growing challenges climate change is bringing to India--and to do so, he built over 100 Santas out of 1,000 tons of sand in the tourist town of Puri. And he broke another world record in the process: most Santas made of sand on a single beach ever. Photos after the jump.

According to the BBC,

The exhibition, which was opened by two foreign tourists last week, seeks to spread awareness about global warming. Mr Patnaik has also sculpted Christmas trees with the message "Save the Earth from Global Warming", to encourage people to give trees as gifts. Hundreds of tourists and locals have been visiting the beach to see the unique display.

scorpio weekly horoscope

Scorpio - You end 2009 and start 2010 with a rare opportunity to make the kind of mental breakthrough that can change your life. You know that your thoughts go a long way toward creating your reality. If you've been reading this column for a while, you must believe that on some level. Otherwise you would have turned me off a long time ago. But what it would take to get you to live as if that belief were actually true? This seems to be the question Mercury retrograde in your 3rd House of thoughts is asking you. One way to explore this is by reviewing the roles you've played in life up until now. Think back to your childhood role: were you the peacemaker, the scapegoat, the abandoned one, the bully, the sensitive? Then track how your roles have evolved over the years. Who do you play in relationships, at the office, among your friends? What you're looking for in this process is perspective, which is precisely what Thursday's lunar eclipse in your 9th House is bringing your way. When you play a role, you necessarily limit yourself. (Think of the range of expression of, for instance, Captain Kirk. Or Elmo. Or Jerry Seinfeld.) Each of your roles locks you into a certain style of thinking and speaking. How much would it free your mind if you decided to expand the range of the roles you habitually play? What if you allowed yourself to play multiple roles and taught yourself to easily and effortlessly switch roles as your circumstances warrant?

Eagle Nebula

Eagle Nebula: A star-making region famous for its space pillars appears in this infrared view from Spitzer. Green denotes cooler dust, including the pillars seen in the center. Red represents hotter dust thought to have been warmed by the explosion of a massive star about 8,000 to 9,000 years ago.

Astronomers estimate that the explosion’s blast wave would have spread outward and toppled the three pillars about 6,000 years ago. Since light from the Eagle nebula takes 7,000 years to reach us, this means we wouldn’t witness the destruction for about 1,000 years.

Delta of Venus

The erotic stories compiled in Delta of Venus:Erotica were originally written by Anais Nin for a private collector in the 1940s. Later, she decided to release the compilation for publication. The works, however, were not published until after her death. At the beginning of Delta of Venus there is a preface that consists of pages from Anais Nin’s diary that provide the reader with background information regarding the contents of the text and attest to her intentions for their publication.

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope

Scorpio - Nobody can think for you but you. This is what you're trying to teach yourself this week -- that what you call reality is only a representation you've made in your mind. A representation of pulsing, swirling, interlacing currents of energy, of untold billions of data packets surfing on radiating waves of light. Yes, this picture you've drawn is real to you. It's the picture your parents and teachers and the talking heads on the TV screen have taught you to draw. But it is only one of an infinite number of equally valid pictures you could be drawing if you could only free yourself from the prison of your words. I'm not trying to taunt you; I am hoping to tempt you to take your thoughts more seriously this week than you've ever taken them before. No one else is to blame for creating your world, do you get it? This is the territory you'll be exploring as Mercury retrogrades in your 3rd House of thoughts and words for the next three weeks. That, and the fact that there is an immense amount of freedom waiting for you outside of your habitual thoughts. And you are the only one on Earth who can think yourself into that freedom.

butterfly wings

What resemble dainty butterfly wings are actually roiling cauldrons of gas heated to more than 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The gas is tearing across space at more than 600,000 miles an hour - fast enough to travel from Earth to the Moon in 24 minutes! A dying star that was once about five times the mass of the Sun is at the center of this fury. It has ejected its envelope of gases and is now unleashing a stream of ultraviolet radiation that is making the cast-off material glow. The Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3), installed by NASA astronauts in May 2009, snapped this image of the planetary nebula, catalogued as NGC 6302, which lies within our Milky Way galaxy, roughly 3,800 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius. The glowing gas is the star’s outer layers, expelled over about 2,200 years. NGC 6302 was imaged on July 27, 2009, with Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 in ultraviolet and visible light. Filters that isolate emissions from oxygen, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur from the planetary nebula were used to create this composite image. (NASA, ESA, and the Hubble SM4 ERO Team)

Polish Patterns, by Kacper Kowalski.

Kowalski has spent the last several years compiling a collection of aerial photographs taken while paragliding over Poland during the winter.

In regards to why he chose paragliding as his means to capture the images instead of an aeroplane, Kowalski says

“The paragliding pilot is in absolute control over the speed, and the precise angle of the shot. You can also get a lot closer to the ground so the quality of the pictures, and the framing, is often better than if you are relying on an aeroplane pilot to manoeuvre you.”

This is a beautiful set. Take a look.

Are you aware yet of the shadow cycle you’ve entered into? Relationships, old ones and brand new ones, are changing in important ways, or else these relationships are changing everything. Fasten your seatbelts and hang on to your hats. Whatever connections have just turned to technicolor are going to be the main focus for a while. They are in your life to bring you much more fully to your Self. That is, if you can allow your Self the opportunity to go beyond any place you’ve ever been before where you your Self are concerned. Mercury is in Saturn’s sign and Saturn is in Libra. We are learning the importance of loving our Selves through what seems like the importance of loving others.

The gods of my tribe have spoken. They have said, “Do not trust the Pilgrims, especially Sarah Miller.”

Scorpio Weekly Horoscope (thanks heather)

Scorpio - You need to do a little mental closet-cleaning to start the week off right. Structure in an hour or so on Monday and Tuesday time for this inner work and you'll amaze yourself with how productive you are the rest for the week. Once you agree to sit down and engage this monster from the past (writing is particularly helpful here) you'll quickly realize how much energy you've been pouring into not dealing with these thoughts. The rest of the week is so powerful for career and money matters. Look, you work hard: You deserve the money. So put it out there this week. Ask for what you want and you're quite likely to get at least a chunk of it.
