really cool video

The impact of open-cast mining in India.

A young woman stumbles as she tries to carry a large basket of coal as she and others illegally scavenge at an open-cast mine in the village of Bokapahari in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand where a community of coal scavengers live and work. The contrast between India old and new is nowhere more vivid than among the villages of coal scavengers in eastern India, sitting on an apocalyptic landscape of smoke and fire from decades-old underground coal fires. While India grows ever more middle-class and awash in creature comforts, these villagers risk their lives scavenging coal illegally for a few dollars a day, and come back to homes that at any moment could be swallowed by a fresh fire-induced crack in the earth.

No matter what else is going on in your life, on any level, in any arena, leave it where it is and turn every bit of your attention to your creative process now. The planets are gathering in your 5th house, where your inventive resource pool exists. Trust your inner guidance mechanism to show you to those hidden pearls of creative wisdom that have been lying there, waiting for you to open them up and turn them on. Dream your dream and trust your Self to Know the way to get there. You do. You always have. There is really nothing that can stop you now. All those people places and things that were once there have left so that you can do what you’ve come to do unimpeded.

Stop reaching for what you think you want and acknowledge what you truly have instead

You’ve really been through it, and there are very few words that could adequately describe the inner alchemy that has taken place. It’s been intense, and severe, and at certain moments, unbearable, but you’ve stayed with your emotions and as a result you’re about to realize that you’ve rounded a major corner and you’re on your way back to the lighter, happier parts of your Self. The Full Moon at the top of your chart on Friday lights up what was not so easily recognizable before, which is that your depth, your passion, and your intense emotional nature is a running river of life, and it nurtures and nourishes you, when you allow it to, far beyond the kind of sustenance most people have access to. The white water is behind you.

You can take it easier and let yourself coast for a while.

Luis Humberto

Luis Humberto Soriano is a 38 years old primary school teacher who lives in La Gloria, a small town in northeastern Colombia. From Monday to Friday, Soriano teaches in the rural school of La Gloria. But on weekends he loads his two donkeys, Alfa and Beto, with mathematics, history, geography and grammar books and heads out for the countryside. There he gives lessons to the kids living on the farms scattered on the hills surrounding La Gloria, who do not have the chance to go to normal school because of long distance and poor economic conditions. This is the Biblioburro, the travelling school. After 10 years this has become an extarordinary institution in this part of Colombia.

Owl Nebula

The “eyes” of the Owl Nebula

The Owl Nebula (M97), an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen gas, helium and other ionized gases formed roughly 6,000 years ago in the constellation Ursa Major, is regarded as one of the more complex of the planetaries. The object gets it name due to the appearance of owl-like “eyes” when view through a large telescope under dark sky conditions with the aid of a so-called “nebula filter.” The “eyes” are also easily visible through photographs taken of the nebula.

Do you realize how incredibly strong and indelible you are? No, really. Have the events of recent months gotten you to refocus on yourself enough to reclaim your greatness and begin the inner transformation that is yours to undertake at this time? One by one the planets that preside over your mind, body and spirit have connected with your ruler, Pluto, to facilitate a transformation so powerful you may not have known what hit you. But now, as Venus makes this same connection and completes the realignment at the heart level, it should become crystal clear that all the upheaval has been for your well-being. You may have already noticed the quality of honesty and truth that is expressed every time you open your mouth these days.

Chiron enters your creative sector and a long, powerful realignment of your emotional and spiritual resources begins.

Amiri Baraka

Incident
Amiri Baraka

He came back and shot. He shot him. When he came
back, he shot, and he fell, stumbling, past the
shadow wood, down, shot, dying, dead, to full halt.

At the bottom, bleeding, shot dead. He died then, there
after the fall, the speeding bullet, tore his face
and blood sprayed fine over the killer and the grey light.

Pictures of the dead man, are everywhere. And his spirit
sucks up the light. But he died in darkness darker than
his soul and everything tumbled blindly with him dying

down the stairs.

We have no word

on the killer, except he came back, from somewhere
to do what he did. And shot only once into his victim’s
stare, and left him quickly when the blood ran out. We know

the killer was skillful, quick and silent, and that the victim
probably knew him. Other than that, aside from the caked sourness
of the dead man’s expression, and the cool surprise in the fixture

of his hands and fingers, we know nothing.

Haruki Murakami

By living our lives, we nuture death. True as this might be, it was only one of the truths we had to learn. What I learnred from Naoko’s death was this: no truth can cure the sadness we feel from losing a loved one. No truth, no sincerity, no strength, no kindness, can cure that sorrow. All we can do is see that sadness through the end and learn something from it, but what we learn will be no help in facing the next sadness that comes to us without warning.”
— Norwegian Wood, Haruki Murakami

Anaïs Nin

You live like this, sheltered, in a delicate world, and you believe you are living. Then you read a book… or you take a trip… and you discover that you are not living, that you are hibernating. The symptoms of hibernating are easily detectable: first, restlessness. The second symptom (when hibernating becomes dangerous and might degenerate into death): absence of pleasure. That is all. It appears like an innocuous illness. Monotony, boredom, death. Millions live like this (or die like this) without knowing it. They work in offices. They drive a car. They picnic with their families. They raise children. And then some shock treatment takes place, a person, a book, a song, and it awakens them and saves them from death. Some never awaken.”

Moon and Venus

Moon and Venus Over Switzerland by David Kaplan

Sometimes a morning sky can be a combination of serene and surreal. Such a sky perhaps existed before sunrise this past Sunday as viewed from a snowy slope in eastern Switzerland. Quiet clouds blanket the above scene, lit from beneath by lights from the village of Trübbach. A snow covered mountain, Mittlerspitz, poses dramatically on the upper left, hovering over the small town of Balzers, Liechtenstein far below. Peaks from the Alps can be seen across the far right, just below the freshly rising Sun. Visible on the upper right are the crescent Moon and the bright planet Venus. Venus will remain in the morning sky all month, although it will likely not be found in such a photogenic setting.

Life is all about energy. What you put out does come back. Karma is a real deal, it is simply the law of cause and effect. Lately you may have been wondering about such things because a great deal more may have been going out lately than has been coming back. There is no way to measure the benefits of recent energetic efforts yet Scorpio. Saturn the planet linked with hard work leading to the harvest is stopping in the sky on Wednesday, January 26 and moving retrograde in your house of culmination. You have yet to see the results of something you have labored long and hard for and the true dividends for your efforts may not materialize until summer. You will be receiving some validating feedback this week, and you will experience a step up from that the following week, reminding you that the struggle was all worth it.

What you put out does come back, and its comin’ Scorpio, it is comin’!
