Chiapas, Mexico

Lacandons Indians, Hach Winick or « real men » who live in the Chiapas forest, south of Mexico. In the Naha village, Miquel Dewever-Plana is the witness of change suffered by this microcosm under the pressure of lackland peasants, farmer settlers, tourists and Christian evangelists.

Lacandones are rare to have survived so long. Traditionally they lived in perfect harmony with the environment but now deforestation and the Western way of life are ever encroaching, and by the end of our lifetimes these people in their authentic state will most likely be gone.

The Lacandon Forest is in the Montes Azules biosphere reserve. Chiapas, Mexico
